Women-only recruitment app could help women’s employment in the private sector

In February 2016, a Saudi Arabia-based social enterprise called Glowork, launched a new project in Dubai, after winning the Emirates Foundation Award for Arabian Gulf Youth. Glowork is an online platform whose main goal is to connect female jobseekers with potential employers. Their new project is an app to increasing women’s employment in the private sector. It allows them to create a digital cv to provide employers with essential data for hiring. It also connects female jobseekers to each other, so that they can exchange information and insights about their experiences. Finally, it also includes a handy geolocation service that allows women to see how far a prospective job opening is located from their home. While this is primarily aimed at women who live in remote areas, it can give anyone an idea of the travel time required before they consider applying for a position.

The MENA region has some of the lowest rates of female labour force participation in the world. This app hopes to fast-track female access to the job market, all the while encouraging innovation in the private sector.
