Working abroad made easy. Have you ever entertained the idea of breaking free from the daily grind and traveling to far-away places you’ve been meaning to explore?
We can all daydream as much as we’d like, but such plans without financial support are purely a fantasy. There’s good news for those ready for a change in scenery and their career.
Jobbatical, a recently launched online job portal, is targeting this demographic and connecting them with employers who are looking for talent on a project basis. Just as the name suggests, the jobs being advertised are temporary, ranging from three months to a year, in which professionals can transition into when they take a sabbatical from their day job.
More than 400 jobs are posted on the site by employers in dozens of countries. Singapore has the largest number of listed opportunities, followed by Hong Kong and Malaysia. In addition, Jobbatical also shortlists candidates for employers and is in the process of developing visa and relocation services for its users.
In our view, this system makes for a win-win situation for all parties involved. There are countless startups around the world that could stand to benefit from tailor picking the best talent from around the world who offer the skills they need. It’s also a cost-effective option for them as they can make the job as temporary as need be. Meanwhile, those who want to venture out and broaden their perspective can now do so and get paid at the same time. It also gives these employees the option to try out a new country before making the decision to relocate for the long-term.
Given the transient work culture here in the UAE and the high demand for skilled-talent, we’d be interested to see if employers here end up jumping on the Jobbatical bandwagon.
