After beginning a career in human resources, French born Catherine Colin, decided one day she would take a drastic change in her career path and pursue her passion for design.
In 1998, and appearing out of nowhere, Catherine launched her own self-supported online store, Made In Design, dedicated to the modern and contemporary design of furniture and accessories.
Within a few years, Made In Design became an essential international retailer of design products with online stores operating out of both France and the United Kingdom. Starting with only a few hundred products, the store now boasts more than 28,000 unique items and since 2011 has showcased designs from promising young talent under her own label.
Made In Design now employees over a hundred staff and has a turnover of 55 million AED each year. Nowa market leader, Made In Design is aiming for further expansion in Europe, with online stores planned for Germany, Spain and several Scandinavian countries.
The success of the company is attributed to a mix of passion for quality design and good management practices. Keen on keeping the start-up management style, Catherine encourages staff to be autonomous and involved with every aspect of the business development.
What an inspiration she is! We love her designs but more than anything we love that she threw everything she had at this ambition to make it happen, in a big way, in a very small amount of time. As a small UAE business we can only dream!
