In Dubai we are spoilt by beautifully packaged food all around us, even sandwiches can arrive in boxes which are positively Picasso-esque. Well why not spare a thought for the ever burgeoning landfills around us and lessen the impact by eating the container too!
WikiBar in Paris is doing just that…by offering foods that only come in an edible container. With the choice of where and what to eat constantly growing, WikiBar has taken a unique and eco-friendly way to make their business stand out from the crowd. Designed by Mattieu Lehanneur, the eatery centres around a circular bar, offering ice cream, yoghurts and cheese which come in a skin that keeps food fresh and enables you to eat the food with your hands. The skin, created by Harvard professor David Edwards, uses natural food products to replace plastic packaging, be it mango ice cream in a skin of coconut or vanilla ice cream in a container made from a peanut base. The skin is biodegradable but designed to be eaten along with the product inside.
Next stop for WikiFoods is supermarkets, so watch out in your local Spinneys, Waitrose et all and start eating it all, literally!
